ReLEx SMILE Laser Eye Surgery

Laser Eye Surgery helps you start living your life

4 Ways ZEISS SMILE is Better

1
No Flap Surgery

There is no cutting of the outer corneal layer of the eye. A small incision of only 4mm (60 degrees) is made as compared to LASIK which requires 20mm (300-degree circular flap).

2
Stronger Cornea

ZEISS ReLEx SMILE® Pro does not cut the anterior cornea, the strongest part of the cornea. Scientific results show that the corneas treated with SMILE® procedure are 47% stronger.

3
Painless Procedure

The complete laser process is a painless procedure. While the SMILE® lenticule is being created, patients feel a slight pressure on their eyes for 30-40 seconds.

4
Fast Recovery

Patients usually report 80% vision improvement after just a few hours of their procedure. Patients should have complete improvement 24 hours after the procedure.

The SMILE Difference

SMILE® is highly effective for near-sightedness (myopia), or astigmatism. SMILE® allows the correction of up to -10.00 D of myopia and up to 3.00 D of astigmatism.

Visumax 800 Femtosecond LASER

Our centre has 5th Generation ZEISS Visumax 800 Femtosecond LASER machine. The new Visumax 800 allows both Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Arms to help the surgeon with making an extraordinary precise laser treatment on your eye. It improves the SMILE laser time from 26 seconds to under 10 seconds. This means there is less chance for patient eye movement and more accurate results compared to the older generation Visumax 500

Condition Treated

This is when you cannot see far away objects. This occurs because the cornea has a steeper shape, so refractive surgery reduces its curvature to correct it.

This condition is caused by irregular curving of the cornea, and surgery can be used to reshape the irregular areas

How does it compare to Lasik?

The main difference between these 2 operations is the size of the incision. LASIK creates a 300-degree circular flap incision, while SMILE® makes a 60-degree incision within a tissue pocket.

SMILE® is highly effective for near-sightedness (myopia), or astigmatism. SMILE® allows the correction of up to -10.00 D of myopia and up to 3.00 D of astigmatism.

LASIK is highly effective for typical farsightedness (hyperopia), near-sightedness (myopia), or astigmatism. LASIK is appropriate for -0.5 D to -8.0 D myopia. If you do not have astigmatism, LASIK is generally not recommended unless you have myopia above 0.5 D.

Some notable differences

A LASIK procedure treats myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. While a SMILE® procedure treats myopia with or without astigmatism. As opposed to LASIK, SMILE® flattens the top of the cornea without cutting a flap in it. If you have thin corneas, LASIK is may not be the choice, but SMILE® can still be used

    Frequently Asked Questions

ReLEx SMILE is most suitable for patients with myopia (short-sightedness) and astigmatism (blurred vision). This procedure is particularly ideal for those who have thin corneas, dry eyes, or a contact lens intolerance, and was previously not suitable for laser eye surgery. However, no two patients or eyes are the same. As a result, a comprehensive assessment by a professional eye surgeon is imperative.

ReLEx SMILE is flapless surgery and has a small 3 mm incision that heals in 2 hours, hence is a very safe surgery.

We have patients every day that come to our office to do the ReLEx SMILE® laser surgery. We operate 3 times per week for SMILE surgery.

Patients usually report 80% vision improvement after just a few hours of their procedure. It may take a few weeks for vision to fully stabilize (reach full visual results) after ReLEx SMILE® vision correction surgery– this is a natural part of the healing process.

The results of ReLEx SMILE® are permanent. No matter whether they’ve had SMILE® surgery or not, everyone’s near vision will change over time.

These changes are an effect of the aging process on the crystalline lens– found in the interior of the eye It is thought that these changes are caused by the aging process of the crystalline lens found in the interior of the eye.
Treatment and correction of these near vision changes are possible with new treatments.

It can be done above 18 years up to 40 years. The eligibility of candidates is determined by a series of tests.

SMILE® involves separating a small layer of corneal tissue using a femtosecond laser. This tissue is about the size of a contact lens and is called the lenticule. The lenticule is then removed through the keyhole incision, which changes the curvature of the cornea to correct the patient’s vision. Lid-guards will be positioned to keep eyes open without any accidental blinking.

Yes. You will be awake during the entire procedure. Our anesthetic eye drops will numb your eyes and you will feel a little heaviness, but no pain during the procedure.

It can be normal to experience slight dryness or a feeling of tired eyes on the day of the procedure. The eyes are kept comfortable post-procedure by a surgeon-guided regimen of medicated drops and artificial tears.
Post-procedure, rest for 24 hours, and stay inside on the day of laser treatment. you can resume your sports activity the next day.

With SMILE there is no flap, as a result, there are no precautions against rubbing the eye.

Since there is no cutting of the cornea using SMILE® technology, it is less likely to cause dry eyes.

No, they are not the same thing. ReLEx SMILE® vision correction provides the same crisp, clear visual results as LASIK does– but these results are achieved using different technologies and processes. You can learn about the technology of LASIK eye surgery and see if you qualify.
